Old Time Molasses Cake Amish Recipe

Old Time Molasses Cake - Amish Recipe

2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cups molasses
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp soda
1 egg
1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk
1/2 cup hot water

Mix all of the ingredients thoroughly.
Bake in your cake pan
at 325 to 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes

Kentucky Cream Cake Recipe

Kentucky Cream Cake Recipe

preheat oven to 350 degrees

1/2 Cup veg oil
1 stick margarine, softened
2 Cups regular sugar
5 egg yolks
5 egg whites, beaten
2 /4 C all purpose flour
1 tsp soda
1 Cup buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
1 Cup coconut
2/3 Cup chopped nuts (your favorite)

In large bowl, cream shortening and margarine with sugar.
Add egg yolks, one at a time. Beat Well.
Add flour and soda alternately with buttermilk.
Add vanilla, coconut and nuts.
Fold in egg whites.
Makes 3 8x8 layers
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes.

Old Fashioned Kentucky Crumb Cake Recipe

Old Fashioned Kentucky Crumb
Cake Recipe


2 Cups Brown sugar
3 Cups plain flour
1/2 Cup Butter
1/2 Cup Lard
1 Cup Sour Cream
1 & 1/2 tsp. Soda
3 Eggs
1 Cup Raisins
1 tsp. Allspice
1 tsp. Cocoa

In a large bowl, mix together with hands:
brown sugar, flour, butter and lard.
*Reserve 1 cup for topping layer.
Add to the bowl with the brown sugar mixture:
sour cream, soda, eggs, raisins, allspice and cocoa.

Pour into greased 9 x 13 pan.
Crumble the reserved cup of topping over the cake.

Bake at 350° for 45- 50 minutes.

Kentucky Gooey Butter Cake Recipe

preheat oven to 350 degrees
1 box Butter Cake mix
1 Egg
1 stick margarine
1 box Powdered Sugar
8 oz. Cream Cheese
2 Eggs

In medium bowl, mix cake mix, 1 egg and margarine together
Press mixture in bottom of greased 13 x 9 pan to make a bottom layer.
Mix powdered sugar, cream cheese and 2 eggs together.
Pour over bottom layer

Bake for 45 minutes.

KENTUCKY POORMANS CAKE

KENTUCKY POORMANS CAKE

1 1/2 cups raisins
1 cup cold water
1/2 cup cold water
1/4 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsps baking soda
2 Tablespoons hot water
2 cups sifted regular flour

In a heavy saucepan, bring raisins and 1 cup water to a boil.
Reduce heat to low and continue cooking 10 minutes longer.

Cream shortening and sugar.
Stir in cooked raisins, 1/2 cup water, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, salt,
and baking soda dissolved in hot water.
Beat in flour.
Pour batter into greased and floured 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

KENTUCKY APPLEBUTTER CAKE RECIPE

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
4 eggs beaten
2 1/2 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 cup Buttermilk
1 cup Apple butter


In Large Bowl,
Beat together shortening and sugar.
Add eggs.
Sift together dry Ingredients
add to egg mixture.
Add alternately with milk
Add Apple Butter & Mix well.

Bake in greased loaf pan at 325 degrees for
40 minutes or until done.

WAR CAKE & TOPPING RECIPE - DATES FROM 1916

WAR CAKE & TOPPING RECIPE
DATED 1916

2 c. water
2/3 c. shortening
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. raisins
3 c. self-rising flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. nuts, chopped (pecans are best)
1 c. cornmeal
1 tsp. baking soda

TOPPING (optional)

3/4 c. sugar
1/2 stick oleo (butter)
1/2 c. milk
1 c. coconut



Boil water, brown sugar, shortening and spices for 3 minutes.
Cool to lukewarm.
Stir in dry ingredients, pour into greased and floured 13 x 9 inch pan.
Bake on 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.

Cook topping for approximately 2 minutes.
Spread on cake while cake is warm.

CARAMEL CAKE & CARAMEL FROSTING RECIPE

2 cups. brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. butter or margarine
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. soda
2 1/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar, add beaten eggs,
sift flour, soda, salt.
Add alternately with milk, beat well.
Add vanilla.

Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
glass pans: bake at 350 degrees.


CARAMEL FROSTING

1 c. brown sugar
4 tbsp. cream
1 tsp. butter

"Cook 1 minute, cool.
Then beat until hard or ready to spread.
Double for 2 layer cake."

GRANNIE'S POUND CAKE & GLORIA'S POUND CAKE RECIPES

GRANNIE'S POUND CAKE RECIPE

3 sticks butter
1 box powdered sugar, sifted
6 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract or choice of flavor
3 cups All-Purpose Flour (Grannie always used White Lily brand)

In a LARGE bowl, cream butter and sugar.
Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well.
Slowly add flour and flavoring.
Beat for 5 minutes with electric mixer.
Pour into greased and floured tube pan.
Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour and 45 minutes.




GLORIA'S POUND CAKE

1/2 pound real butter
2 cups powdered sugar
3 large eggs
1 2/3 cups flour
1 tablespoon lemon extract or vanilla

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Spray an 8 1/2-inch Pyrex loaf dish with Pam.

Cream butter with sugar on high speed of mixer for 5 minutes.
Add 1 egg and then a little flour, beating 2 minutes.
Add 2nd egg and half of remaining flour and beat 2 minutes.
Add 3rd egg, rest of flour and extract, beating 2 minutes.
Spread thick and creamy batter evenly in prepared loaf dish.
Bake 65 minutes or until tester inserted into center comes out clean.

Cool in baking dish on wire rack 30 minutes.
Remove from dish.
Slice 1/2-inch thick.
If freezing, be sure to slice before freezing loaf.
Thaw to use within 6 months.

CROCKPOT KENTUCKY SWEET POTATOES & KENTUCKY BUTTER CAKE

KENTUCKY SWEET POTATOES RECIPE

2 lb. sweet potatoes, peeled and grated
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup flaked coconut
1/4 cup broken pecans
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. coconut extract
1/4 tsp. vanilla

In a crock pot, combine potatoes, honey, butter, coconut, pecans and cinnamon.
Cover and cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours or on High for 3 to 4 hours.
Stir in coconut and vanilla extracts.

KENTUCKY BUTTER CAKE & SAUCE RECIPE


1 cup butter at room temperature
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 cups sugar
1 cup buttermilk
3 cups all purpose flour

Cream butter and sugar with electric mixer until fluffy.
Beat eggs into the mixture one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Stir in buttermilk and vanilla.
Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Add to butter mixture, combining well.
Pour into a well buttered and floured tube or bundt pan.
Bake at 325 degrees for 60 to 65 minutes or until cake tests done.
Remove from oven; pierce the entire surface of the cake with a fork.
Pour Hot Butter Sauce (RECIPE FOLLOWS)over the cake.
Let cool.
Remove from pan.

KENTUCKY HOT BUTTER SAUCE:


1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup water
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and cook,
stirring constantly
until mixture is smooth and hot.
DO NOT BOIL.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
